Industry level life cycle analysis updated to better understand eco-credentials and minimise risks (MU22005)

The project developed an up-to-date industry-wide Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), providing an industry-average benchmark for environmental performance, alongside a practical benchmarking tool for growers to assess their own carbon footprint.

The LCA considered environmental impacts across the mushroom supply chain, from raw materials and energy use through to production, packaging and distribution. The project focused on key indicators including greenhouse gas emissions, waste, recycling, water use and energy use.
